Device does not power on.
A fictional technician-facing example demonstrating safe sequencing, observable checks, and decision-based troubleshooting.
Warning — electrical shock
Disconnect input power before inspecting cables, connectors, or replaceable components. Only qualified personnel may open the enclosure.
Initial checks
- Confirm that the main power switch is in the ON position.
- Inspect the external power cable for cuts, crushed insulation, or bent pins.
- Connect a known-good device to the same outlet.
Does the known-good device power on?
No: Restore facility power or use a verified outlet.
Yes: Continue to the input-cable test.
Input-cable test
- Disconnect the device from input power.
- Replace the external cable with a known-good cable of the same rating.
- Reconnect power and switch on the device.
Does the device power on?
Yes: Tag the original cable as defective and remove it from service.
No: Disconnect power and escalate for internal power-path diagnosis.
Record the result
Record the device serial number, outlet test result, replacement-cable result, and any visible damage in the service ticket.
